4. QHY2020 camera supports SharpCap as shooting software. Please download and install SharpCap software. QHY2020 can be used in SharpCap version 2.9 or higher. (Because QHY2020 adds the Read Mode mode, the software version after Sharpcap3.2 can support this mode, so it is recommended to use SharpCap3.2) If you cannot access the official website of SharpCap in China, please download it online or contact QHYCCD Technology helps.
Note that for the latest version of SharpCap, QHY2020 also requires the latest qhyccd.dll, so please download the latest qhyccd.dll and replace it in the software installation directory.
5. First connect 12V power to QHY2020, then connect QHY2020 camera to your computer via USB3.0 data cable. Before connecting the camera to the computer, make sure that the QHY2020 is plugged in, otherwise the camera will not recognize it. When connecting for the first time, the system will discover new devices and look for drivers for them. You can click "Skip to obtain driver software from Windows Update" to skip the online search step, and then the computer will automatically find the driver and install it locally. After the driver software is successfully installed, you can see QHY5IIISeries_IO in the device manager, as shown in the figure below.
Note: The input voltage of QHY2020 cannot be lower than 11.5V, otherwise it will not run normally.

After you download and install the new driver, please unplug the USB data cable, and then re-plug it to make the new driver take effect.
02 Description of each interface

03 Use QHY2020 in SharpCap
1. Connect 12V power to QHY2020, and connect your QHY2020 to your computer using a USB 3.0 data cable.
2. If you have activated the SharpCap software before connecting the camera, in order to open the camera, you can click on the camera in the menu bar and select QHY2020.
3. Turn on SharpCap. If the software and driver mentioned above are successfully installed, the video image will appear automatically, and you can also see the frame rate in the lower left corner of the software, as shown in the figure below.

4. Offset adjustment. When you completely block the camera, you may find that the image is not really completely black. Sometimes this reduces the quality of the image contrast. You can get a better dark field by adjusting the offset. You can confirm this by opening the histogram.

5. By selecting “LX” mode, you can expand the exposure time range for long exposure. QHY2020 is equipped with amplifier light emission suppression circuit, which can greatly suppress the light generated by the amplifier during long exposure. It should be noted that due to the high degree of integration of the internal circuits of the CMOS chip mounted inside the QHY2020, it cannot be completely controlled by external circuits, so it is impossible to completely suppress the corner light. It's normal to see some corner light when you make a long exposure.
A long exposure image at -10 ° C, 20s exposure time, and gain setting of 30.

6. After the QHY2020 is connected to a 12V power supply, the temperature control circuit will start. You can control the temperature of the CMOS by adjusting the settings in the figure below.

There are two main ways to control the temperature, one is to adjust the Cooler Power, and the other is to set the Target Temperature. If you want to directly control the CMOS temperature by setting the target temperature, you should click “Auto” first and then set the target temperature by adjusting the slider.
Before using the cooling function, you should read the question "How to protect the refrigerator" in the FAQ to make better use of the cooling function.
In QHY2020, the Read MODE function is added. This function includes 3 modes: HDR MODE, STD MODE LGC and STD MODE HGC. Support output dual channel, low gain channel and high gain channel. Set in SharpCap as follows:

04Using QHY2020 in ASCOM
QHY2020 can work on most software supporting ASCOM platform. Currently QHY2020 only supports regular ASCOM connection, but does not support ASCOM VIDEO connection. It should be noted that QHY2020 will always transmit the maximum bit depth to get the best DSO imaging performance. The format of the image is 16bit, high-order aligned, and low-order zero-padded.
1. First you need to confirm that both the ASCOM platform and the ASCOM driver have been successfully installed.
3. Follow the prompts below to complete the setup
You need to click Connect before shooting. After connecting the camera, click Cooler to set the cooling temperature and turn on the cooling.

Click Expose to enter the interface and click Start to shoot.

In QHY2020, the Read MODE function is added. This function includes 3 modes: HDR MODE, STD MODE LGC and STD MODE HGC. Support output dual channel, low gain channel and high gain channel. Set in MaximDL as follows:


06 Use QHY2020 in EZCAP_QT
EZCAP_QT is a software developed by QHYCCD. For QHYCCD deep space cameras, it has basic shooting functions. You can download and use it in the previous link.
1. Install the EZCAP_QT software;
2. Connect QHY2020 with 12V power first, then connect QHY2020 camera to your computer via USB3.0 data cable.
3. Start EZCAP_QT and click “Connect” in Menu-> Camera. If the camera is successfully connected, the title of the EZCAP_QT software will display the camera's firmware version and camera ID, as shown below

Language can be switched in Language.
4. Click "Temperature Control" in "Camera Settings" to set the temperature of the CMOS sensor. You can turn on "Auto" to set the target temperature. For example, here we set the target temperature to -10C. The temperature of the CMOS sensor will soon drop to this temperature (about 2-3 minutes). If you want to turn off cooling, you can select "Stop". If you only want to set the cooling power and not the temperature, you can set the power percentage.
5. You can use the preview tab to preview and use the focus tool to focus. Then use the Capture tab to capture the image.
First adjust an approximate focal length in Previewzh, double-click an area in the image to select the area, and enter Focus to focus.

08 FAQ
1. How to avoid camera jam?
If the camera keeps stuck, it may be caused by multiple reasons, you can check it by following the tips below.
1) Is your computer configured with a VIA chipset or some type of motherboard, which does not print at all on SharpCap (but works normally on ASCOM) In this case, you need to enable the camera's DDR buffer
2) Is your computer and equatorial mount leaking? This may cause leakage current to be transferred from the computer to the camera via GND. This may affect USB transfer, lost data packets, and camera stuck. You need to make sure the computer and the equatorial mount are well grounded.
3) Is the voltage of the USB interface high enough? The USB interface voltage of some computers cannot reach 5V. This may cause the camera to stay stuck. In this case, you can choose to connect the computer and the camera by using a USB3.0 Hub with power, which can ensure that the camera gets 5V.
4) Is the CPU usage too high? If the CPU usage is too high, many frames will be lost and the camera will be stuck. You can reduce the Speed ​​value to lower the FPS for more stable image transmission.
5) Is the USB cable securely connected? Sometimes the connection problem between the camera and the USB cable and the connection problem between the computer and the USB cable can cause signal loss and cause the camera to freeze. Especially when the USB cable is moving. In this case, you can try to apply some silicone oil to the USB connector and socket part. This will make the USB connection more stable.
6) Avoid static electricity. Sometimes the static electricity carried on the human body can cause the camera to freeze. Before touching the camera, you can discharge the static electricity by touching the case of the computer case.
7) The front USB interface of some computers is not suitable for high-speed data transmission (because they are connected to the motherboard through a cable, which makes the signal integrity worse). If you find that the camera is stuck when using the front USB interface, you can try to connect the camera to its rear USB interface (they are directly connected to the chipset of the motherboard).
2. How to clean the CMOS sensor and optical window?
If you find dust on the CMOS sensor, you can first unscrew the front half of the QHY2020, and then use the cleaning kit for the SLR camera sensor to clean the CMOS sensor. Attention QHY2020's CMOS sensor cleaning process must be careful.
You can also use SLR cleaning tools or lens paper for cleaning. Be careful not to apply too much force, as the coating is fragile and easily scratched.
3.QHY2020 has added glow suppression function.

4. What is the camera's built-in DDR buffer? What are its advantages?
QHY2020 has a built-in 128MB DDRII image buffer. It has two advantages:
It can buffer the entire image to avoid loss during USB transfer. Because once the CMOS sensor starts to work, it will continuously expose, output images, and start and end again. However, the computer will temporarily suspend the USB transmission due to the multi-tasking characteristics of the operating system. If the pause time is too long, the buffer with a small storage capacity in the USB will be full, resulting in the loss of upcoming data. It may also cause a part of the data of a frame to be lost to form a bad frame. For short exposures, this may not cause much of a problem, but for long exposures, this means losing one long exposure image. The 128MB DDRII buffer can solve this problem by storing and transmitting the entire frame of image. No data is lost even if USB transfer is paused for a long time.
Another advantage is that when using some computers that are not fast or support USB 3.0, it will make the video images more delicate and smooth. These computers cannot perform high-speed data transmission well, data will often be lost. With DDR Buffer, which can buffer a lot of image data and send it to the computer. Even if USB3.0 often suspends transmission, it will guarantee that data will not be lost. There are options in SharpCap to turn DDR buffering on or off. The current version of the ASCOM driver has been working in DDR mode.
5.How to protect the refrigerator?
The QHY2020 refrigerator can achieve an ambient temperature difference of nearly 35 ° C. You should avoid thermal shock during use. The so-called thermal shock refers to the internal strong stress that the refrigerator must withstand due to the principle of thermal expansion and contraction when the temperature of the refrigerator suddenly rises or falls. The thermal shock of distance will shorten the life of the refrigerator. It even completely damages the refrigerator.
Therefore, when you start to use the refrigerator to adjust the temperature of the CMOS, you should avoid turning the refrigerator on to the maximum power in one click, and you should gradually increase the power of the refrigerator. Before disconnecting the power, if the power of the refrigerator is relatively high, you should also gradually reduce the power of the refrigerator before disconnecting the power.
6. When the camera is running for a period of time with the DDR mode turned on, the frame rate drops to 0. What should I do?
Some users report that the frame rate of their cameras with DDR modules dropped to zero after running on SharpCap for a period of time; such problems are caused by the high output rate of the CMOS chip and the slow reception rate of the computer. Once the CMOS sensor starts to work, it will continuously expose, output images, and start and end again and again, without stopping. If the computer suspends USB transmission too frequently due to the operating system, it will cause DDR data to overflow, causing bad frames to continue to occur. None of the images entering the DDR is complete, so the frame rate is zero.
The first method is to replace a better computer. For a computer with poor performance, we recommend replacing it to ensure that the camera runs normally.
The second method is to turn off the DDR mode in SharpCap, but for computers with poor performance, this method may not be effective due to its slower data transmission speed.

7. How to avoid horizontal noise in QHY2020
When the camera is connected to a USB port with high noise, a horizontal noise image will appear. Replace the USB interface and get a clean image when the camera is on a good USB port.
8. Camera maintenance
Dry Camera CMOS Cavity
The CMOS sensor is located in a CMOS cavity. There is a hole in the side of the front of the QHY4040 camera. If there is moisture in the CMOS cavity that causes the sensor glass to fog, you can connect a silicone tube through this hole to dry it.
Please put an effective silica gel desiccant in the silicone rod and make sure there is cotton inside to prevent the silicone from entering the CMOS cavity.
9.How to prevent fogging of optical window of CMOS sealed cavity
If the ambient humidity is very high, the optical window of the CMOS sealed cavity may have dew condensation problems. QHY2020 has a built-in heating plate to heat it to prevent fogging. In most cases, its effect is very obvious. If the fogging problem persists, try this:
1. Avoid directing the camera to the ground. The density of the cold air is greater than the density of the hot air. If the camera is facing down to the ground, the cold air will more easily contact the glass and cause it to cool down and condense.
2. Increase the temperature of the CMOS sensor. You can increase the temperature of the CMOS sensor slightly to prevent fogging of the glass.
3. Check whether the heating plate is working. If the heating plate is not working, the glass will be easily fogged. Generally, the temperature of the heating plate can reach 65-70 ° C in a 25 ° C environment. If it is not so hot, it may be because the heating plate is damaged, you can contact us to replace the heating plate.
10. Regarding external trigger control, QHY2020 hardware supports external trigger function. If necessary, please contact QHYCCD to install this function before purchasing.
11.Speer settings in SharpCap
When the camera is at a high speed, the image may be out of phase. Try lowering the Speed to solve the problem.
In the software's Speed setting, the number of steps will appear at 0 frames and cannot be displayed. See the table below to set the Speed.
