268C Binning Behaviour

268C Binning Behaviour
« on: April 29, 2021, 08:00:19 PM »
Hello:

I've been using this camera binned 1x1 since last summer.  I recently tried binning 2x2 and the resulting images have almost no colour information.  I checked my post processing and all is good.  Was completely stumped until I noticed that when acquiring an image when binned 1x1 there are 3 distinct peaks in the histogram corresponding the RGB channels; 2x2 there was 1 peak; 3x3 there were 2 peaks and 4x4 1 peak.  I checked in both SGP and Easy Capture to verify exactly the same result.

Is this a problem with hardware or drivers/software?

Hi,
The 1X1 image is normal but 2X2 isn't?Could you attach the 1X1 and 2X2 image file?

I hope the jpegs are fine the fits file for the 1x1 is too large to upload.

Hi,
Which version ASCOM driver and SDK do you use?And which software do you use?not include SGP and Easy Capture.I tested this on my side with SGP and MDL,it can only get 1 peak in 1X1 and 2X2.In fact,if you use ASCOM to capture,it will can only get mono images.

QHY CAMERA DRIVER 210225
QHY ALL-IN-ONE 21.03.13.17
I don't alter the SDK installed with the drivers above.
My standard image capture software is SGP, Cartes du Ciel, PHD2, iOptron, Xagyl Filter Wheel, and Optec focuser.

I connect the camera with QHYCCD Camera Capture in SGP.

Thank you.

Hi,
If you capture images without Filter, can it get three peaks in 1X1 bin mode?

In 1x1 binning, with no filter or UV/IR filter or Idas D1 filter they all have a three peak histogram.

Thank you.

Hi,
I tested QHY268C and SGP with same version ASCOM driver and SDK,but I can only get one peak in 1X1 bin mode, this is different with your camera, can we do remote control for this?I think this can help us check the issue.

The histograms that I have referenced in my initial post are from flat frames.  I probably should have stated that from the onset.  Not sure if this means anything to your analysis, apologies for not including this.  Regardless the end result being a mono image if it is binned other than 1x1 is the same.

I will PM you to set up a remote session in the coming days.

Thank you.
