QHY support on MacOSX with TheSkyX Pro - advice needed vs. Linux/Windows

I largely use QHY products - mainly QHY163M and QHY247C cameras for capturing. I really would like to have everything be done on a Mac of which I have several. Right now I use a Windows machine for capturing (using SharpCap) and MacOS with TSX for driving my MyT. If I could get my QHY cameras and EFW (which is a ZWO mini-EFW) to work via TSX I?d be all set and could capture only with TSX thus eliminating the need for SharpCap. Especially now that TSX has live stacking.

I went with QHY since I prefer to buy Taiwan-made products instead of from China. Maybe that was a mistake (and I?m not a purist about, just a preference) but it?s too late and I have several thousand dollars worth of cameras from QHY now.

If QHY cameras won?t work with TSX on MacOS (i.e., the X2 driver issue which used to be present and I did a search on the forum but didn?t find anything definitive and I'm asking for advice on which direction to go) then would it make a difference under Linux? I don?t see how it could but perhaps it does. Does anyone have any experience running a QHY163M or a QHY247C on a Mac with TSX? If I could make it work with Linux I?d be okay too.

I finally have an option of putting Windows on a MacBook Pro ? would that work out well? In other words, is the problem with the QHY that used to be present only with the Mac OS X or is there any kind of a hardware issue as well? If I go with Windows, do I need to use ASCOM or does the X2 driver in Windows work well? (I found ASCOM cumbersome too but perhaps I just didn?t do enough with it ? it really slowed down my Windows system so I deleted it but it was on a very old laptop.)

Given that there is a lot more software for AP under Windows perhaps I should just do the last option. So I'm just wondering for a fast and efficient way to directly use my cameras with TSX as a one stop solution without too much dicking around.

I also have used EZCAP which is buggy on the MacOS X - I have some extra pixels that are all black with the 247C I think plus the UI is really clunky (the SharpCap UI is the best IMO, even TSX doesn't have this UI). So perhaps I should just do SharpCap and TSX on a Windows OS but on a MacBook Pro - would that work?

Thoughts? Thanks!

No takers on this?  For now I upgraded one of my Macs which was being flaky wit Catalina and that solved the issue of what to do about computers for now but I still am using two computers.

Once my new laptop arrives, I will re-try to use an all Mac OS X system to run TSX and see if it will recognise my QHY cameras now. If not, then  the Windows question remains: Windows on a Mac, or Windows on a cheap laptop?

Thanks!

Hi Ram,
sorry for problems you have with TSX. I just got access to all SB's TSX versions (Linux, Mac, Win, ARM) thanks to Richard Wright & Daniel Bisque, so I can continue on plugin development supporting QHY cameras and CFWs. So, please be patient for a while...

Current status: I have downloaded all the development stuff for TSX's X2Camera support for Linux Intel 64 bit a few days ago and already fixed one problem which badly displayed Readout Modes, but there other issues we are working on with SB.

The TSX uses so called X2Camera driver which has to be implemented by all cameras' vendors and in out case utilizes linux driver, ie. libqhyccd.so library compiled for macos. So, we have to fix all possible problems and properly call our API's from X2Camera.

When everything works well on Linux, I will move that stuff to my Mac and Windows and compile it for that platforms. I work on that issues daily in
close cooperation with SB company and our developer engineers, so once again, please be patient.

I will keep you all informed when stuff is done.
Take Care,
Jan

Thanks Jan! For the first time, it actually recognised my QHY camera but then it crashed right away. So that's some kind of improvement. Incidentally Ekos seems to recognise it just fine and take images from them so it is possible to get these cameras to work on the Mac but it'd be nice to have it do so with TSX so I can do closed loop slews and such.

Same problem here, Mac OS, QHY cameras (224c and 22m), TheSkyX Pro - the driver crashes and the plug-in in the download section here is outdated and won't install on the newest builds of TSX.
Waiting impatiently for the update  :-[

Thank you so much! I will try it out and see if it works - I should be modify the install path as needed.
