Hi

Will this QHY9 driver work with Windows XP?

Do I need to uninstall any previous QHY9 drivers or will this simply replace it?

If I do need to uninstall them how do I do this?

Thanks

It seems to work ;D , but have anyone gotten the QHY5 up and running with PHD guide? I can't make it work, and I suspect that the PHD guide plugin cannot communicate with the new driver. Any thughts on this?

You have to use the latest version of PHD guide and connect the camera under ASCOM, not under QGuider or QHY5.  You have to make sure to also install the ASCOM drivers and ASCOM platform.

Advice welcomed.

What do you mean with "other drivers"
Do you mean drivers for other cameras or drivers for the applications?

Thanks for replying Tom.  Let me understand this all.  Do the other drivers for the QHY8Pro only work with the selected applications.
I have in the past installed the driver for the QHY8Pro then used Nebulosity as my capture program.  I now cannot get nebulosity to see the camera with anything other than the Ascom drivers.

The same seems to happen with the QHY5 and PHD Guiding.

Hi Doug,

this is not in my control.  You'll have to ask the author of the respective software is he wnat to add this support;
Not sure really if there is a real advantage as all of these apps support ASCOM

Hello Qiu,

I see that you are writing 64 bit drivers for the QHY camera range but I do not see the QHY6 being written for.
Are you planning on writting the drivers for the 64 bit drivers for the QHY6 for Windows 7 and Vista ?

Great to see EZCap working with 64 bit drivers now.

I have found that i cannot go more than binning of x2 in the Planner of EZCAP 1.8.
Can you look at this please.

Thanks.

I'll post when I have something to test

Alastro,

as per post in the other toppic, I currently do not have plans to make these drivers for the QHY2.
There have been no updates to the QHY2 drivers since the last version release
In addition to that the firmware would not be supporting the new features as described for the QHY9.
So basically this would not add to the functionality of the camera.

If I want to use QHY9 with Nebulosity, do I have to revert to older windows drivers?

TEC and filterwheel controls in Nebulosity does not seem to work with ASCOM drivers.
I think the QHY9 control in Nebulosity was written for windows drivers only and new windows drivers don't work with Nebulosity?

Any help would be appreciated.

Dave

Dave

The lack of temp control support in dor ASCOM is an incomplete coverage of the ASCOM drivers by Nebulosity and it is not something that can or should be solved by the drivers.
If you want to use nebulosity + temperature control you either will have to wait until the Nebulosity internal stuff has been adapted to the latest standards or  revert back to the old stuff.

Fileterwheel is independent from the camera.  Both ASCOM drivers for this are available and should work with anuy camera in RS232 mode.

The temp comtrol and filter control in nebulosity is found at "View" , "QHY9 controls " from the view menu.

Thanks for the info Tom.
I'll wait for the Nebulosity to catch up, also it doesn't have independent ASCOM filterwheel control either, good thing I am on trial mode.

Would I be missing out on anything if i used old drivers?
Some sort of version control/revision history of drivers on a web page would be nice  ;)

I'll try Maxim + ASCOM....just a bit pricey though.

Anyway, I think I'm hijacking the thread...I'll create a new topic if I'm still in trouble.
Thanks for the help.

Hi Dave,

I think Nebulosity is a great program.  It uses it's own internal driver structure so when major updates occur things have to be reworked.
It only has some limitations in its ASCOM implementation.  It also has direct drivers but they need updating to the latest driver fraework.  As far as I'm aware of, these will be released shsortly.

As I don't have the means of investinging in a source control system anything more than the basic, I'm bound to support the latest version only, hence I only have the final version available.
Basic rule I apply: if you have problems, update to the latest drivers, if not solved, report as a problem.   It is a modus operandi mainly due to ack of time to do more a extensive solutions.

Maxim is indeed pricy (though ascom is free).  There are other solutions list Priam and AstroArt as well but everybody has his own preferences when it comes to imaging...

Hi    Newbie needing help please!

I have a QHY5 that I wish to use as guide cam with PHD and possibly Maxim.  I am using Ascom with Cartes du Ciel to control EQ6 mount with EQmod.

Where do I find the appropriate driver for the QHY5 please. Any advice appreciated.

QHY5 vid/pid is USB\VID_1618&PID_0901\5&34AF11FF&0&5

Many thanks

Hi Chip,

Where did you get the camera?  Didn't you get instructions on how to use.
With this VID/PID all latest downloaded drivers should work.

All about cartes du ciel and EQmod are out of the equation I think as they have nothing to do with the imaging part (provided you will be guiding using the camera port an d not through EQMOD.

No there was no CD or DVD; just an A4 page 'Quickstart Guide' leading to www.astrosoft.be from where I ended up here.

The company was Astronomia based in Surrey, UK who were at Astrofest, London.

I have same problem with QHY5.  I can see stars in QGVideo, but not in PHD.  Using latest drivers for 64 bit W7, selecting ASCOM v.5 -> QHY5 CMOS Camera.  PHD connects, and I see black screen and a few hot pixels with lens cap on, or white screen if I flash light at sensor, but no sign of star (tried with Sirius as well as Alnitak pre-focussed and centred in QGVideo first).  Latest versions of PHD, ASCOM, QHY downloads, etc.

Hi,

maybe it is best to try day-time images with a lense and see where you get
If QGVideo is working then the camera is working fine.
Are you sure only one application is connected to the camera at the same time?
ASCOM is just based on the same dlls so see no reason why this would not work

Maybe it is just a matter of the visualization (gamma settings or so)

I know it works because I imaged Mars using RGB filters a couple of weeks ago.  I upgraded PHD to the latest pre-release version after posting this.  I also took darks.  ALthough this was in the day time with the cap on, I now get noise lines where before I only got blackness, and if I turn up the brightness the image gets lighter.  Will try to test later and see if it works now.  I was getting stars in QGVideo, but not PHD (did select the loop icon to capture).  I am wondering whether QGVideo closes properly when closing?  As I used that to find and focus stars with a mask, closed, and then opened up PHD and connected via ASCOM.

is this recurring or just once?  This looks like the data is no longer synchronised with the camera reading.

It happened for several times.  The further symptom is, PHD got hang, and I can only end it using the Windows task manager.

The reason I upgrade to this new driver with ASCOM 5.51 is, the PHD got hang in Windows7 with the old astrosoft.be drivers.  I tried both 512 and 1024 version, and it seems the camera was disconnected (heard a sound and I guess the old driver is unstable in Windows7) after running PHD for a while.  The screen of the PHD then became black and PHD hang.

Running the PHD and the old astrosoft.be driver (1024 version) in Windows XP is no problem, and it proves to be a very stable platform.

Please help as I can't find a stable version for running in Windows7 at the moment for the autoguide.

The instability issue of the QHY5 driver in Windows7 is not only affecting PHD, but also QGVideo 4.0.2.

After I ran QGVideo for a while, tuning the exposure and gain, it hang.  The LED on the QHY5 camera was switched off, and when I re-run the QGVideo, it said "No camera detected".  I need to unplug the USB cable to re-connect the QHY5 again.  Even I re-open the QCVideo, it hang after running for a while, and for some time, it shows similar symtom as with PHD.

One more test result: running PHD with the QHY5 astrosoft.be 1024 driver in another VISTA (32 bit) machine is also stable, and no disconnection was encountered.

So, I guess the stability problem of the data transmission / disconnection between the QHY5 and computer may only exist in Windows7.

The Windows7 I am running is 32 bit version.

Please help to see if there is any tuning can be done for running the QHY5 WINUSB or astrosoft.be driver in Windows7.

I didn't encounter disconnection in Windows7 with QHY8 running the WINUSB driver.

Subaru,

Can you plesae let me know after how much time these effects occur?
I have been using the QHY5 on Win7 for a significant amount of time without any problems

The breakdown happens if computer communication gets jammed (too many errors, short disconnect).
I have  up the QHY5 on my Win7 x64 and see how it behaves.
Does this effect show after hours or does it show fairly fast?

I have been using the QHY5 on Win7 for a significant amount of time without any problems

The breakdown happens if computer communication gets jammed (too many errors, short disconnect).
I have  up the QHY5 on my Win7 x64 and see how it behaves.
Does this effect show after hours or does it show fairly fast?

regards
Tom

Subaru,

I have QGVideo running now on Win7 with the latest drivers for several hours in a row now and I have not noticed the behaviour you describe.
I'll continue to look for the problem but key to solving anything is being able to reproduce it.

regards
Tom

Tom,

Thanks for your advice.

I tried it again in my Windows7 computer with another USB cable (with filter at the end) and have not been encountered the disconnection / out-of-sync / hanging problem.

The strange thing is the last USB cable I used had no problem in my XP and Vista computers but the Windows7.

So, I guess the last USB cable I used is not good enough and might cause data out-of-sync problem in the Windows7 computer.

I will continue to run it to see if the same issue occurs.

Hi Subaru,

thanks for the update.
Let me know if you encounter this problem again.  Most devices will lose connected when the connection breaks for wharever reason.

Hi Qiu and Tom,

I tried to install all drivers to my new Windows 7 machine. I was successful with the QHY5 and QHY8 and both cameras are recognized by the system and running via ASCOM under Maxim and PHD-Guiding.

I now still have some remaining problems:

CCDCap 2.6.2 does not recognize any camera, even when listed in the device manager as running without problems. I always find only "Rescan for camera" in the pulldown menu of CCDCap. Any idea?

I cannot install my QHY6-255 neither with the system driver nor via ASCOM. System driver (QHY6Drv) runs without problems, but when I plug in the camera the laptop tries to install drivers but does not find a proper one. I am using the latest drivers from Toms Website.
I tried the install tool, but no QHY6 driver has been found, only QHY5 and QHY8.

When trying to install the QHY6ASCOMSetup I receive the message "ASCOM Platform 5 required". I am running ASCOM 5.5.1, so I don't know, what to do.

Any hints?

Best regards

Carsten

Carsten,

there should be an ew version of CCDCap shortly that will work with the new drivers and solve some of the issues in the latest versions.

About ASCOM, this is somehow a bug in the ascom system.  The routines copy feom their setup lyout files and should work for version 5 up to 6.
I have removed this check in all other drivers.  I'll so st similar for the QHY6 then so it can still work under 5.5.1
Removing this check will however cause possible issues when 6.0 is rolled out and V2.0 of the camera specs become active so I'm looking for a more permanent solution.

Will these drivers enable the QHY8 color to work with CCDSoft v5? Or, should I stick with Tom's LIBUSB sys drivers the LIBUSB CCDSoft plugin?

Tom,

thanks for the feedback. So I will wait for a new version of CCDCap and a new ASCOM driver for the QHY6.

I still then have the problem, that the system driver for the QHY6 is not found by the system, even if QHY6Drv has run without errors. May this problem be linked to the specific version of the camera (QHY6-255)?

Best regards

just uploaded a new driver installation file for the QHY6.  This file will install on ASCOM 5.5.1.  appart from that the driver is exactly the very same version of the earlier one.

Tom,

thanks again, this ASCOM - Driver installs without error messages now.

Sadly I cannot test it on the target hardware, because the QHY6 still is not being recognized from my Windows7 machine. I tried the same system driver under VISTA on another PC, and the camera is recognized without problems. So this seems to be an effect from Windows7 and not from the camera.

Any ideas regarding this last remaining issue?

Carsten,

your Win7 system is 32 bit right?
If 64 bit, the QHY6 will indeed not work as there are no 64bit capable drivers fo this camera.
On a 32bit system, there should be no problem using the QHY6 with the normal drivers.
CCDCap 2.7 will be released in teh next weeks and should accepts all the latest drivers dor the cameras.
Older camera drivers will no longer work with 2.7 then.

Tom,

thats the explanation then. Of course my Windows 7 is a 64 bit version. So you think, there is no chance using the QHY6 on this system? I would really regret this, as I would have to use another Computer just to use the QHY6-255.
 ???

Probably Qiu could offer a 64 bit system driver sometime?

Hi,

as per previous message, QHY6 64 bit drivers are not in the pipeline for now.
I currently don't see a possibility to schedule this my planning.
Anyway if it can be done soon, it will be released with the on the next release date (this date still has to be picked), but should occur quarterly.

Hello,

Im having a problem with the driver for QHY8. Im running Windows 7 64 bit and trying to connect the camera to MaximDL Pro. I downloaded QHY8Drv64.zip. Is this the correct driver? Im able to connect the simulator but not the QHY8. I also tried to use the Firmware version detecter and I get the following error. Access violation at address 00000000. Read of address 00000000.

Thanks,

Hi Theo,

I am having the same problem that Brad (Calloway Hyperstar) is having, except I'm using the QHY8Pro.  I'm running Windows 7 64 bit and Maxim DL 5.  The 64 bit driver that you have on the qhy site for download works well for EZCapp, but in Maxim, I can' t connect to the QHY8Pro.  I get the error message that Brad described.

Thanks, Glenn

Hi Tom,

I seem to have resolved the issue!   :)

Here is what I'm running:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit version
ASCOM 5.5 Platform with updates installed
Maxim DL Pro 5.08
Latest 64-bit ASCOM driver for the QHY8Pro

The 64-bit QHY8Pro driver installed correcly with no errors.
After installing everything and then opening MaximDL Pro 5.08 "QHY8Pro" appears on the list of cameras available for connection:  (See attachment: QHY8Pro-Select.jpg).

If you select the QHY8Pro camera and then try to connect you get the error as shown in the attachment (QHY8ProError1.jpg)

Do this instead:

From the drop down for camera selection, choose the ASCOM option. (see attachment:ASCOM-Select1.jpg).
After selecting ASCOM from the list of cameras, click on the "Advanced" button.  You will then get an ASCOM popup dialog that will allow you to choose the QHY8Pro camera.  (See attachment: ASCOM-Select1.jpg).

I was able to get the camera to connect and operational after making the above selection.

Hope this helps others with similar setups who are experiencing connection problems.

Cheers, Glenn

Glenn,

Which version of ASCOM and Maxim  are you using?
Can you check the using another application that supports ASCOM, like e.g. PHD guiding to see if this application can connect to the camera.

Brad,

Do you also get the Access violation error in Maxim or only in the version checker.

would you be so kind to rasie this as an issue on http://www.astrosoft.be/bugtrack

regards
Tom

I have ASCOM Platform 5.5.1    MaximDL Pro 5.08  I tried to connect to PHD Guiding and my camera is not in the dropdown window. Tried to connect to Nebulosity and it says QHY8 camera not found. I get the Access violation at address 00000000. Read of address 00000000. error when I use the Driver Version Detector. When I connect to MaximDL I get the error message " Error opening camera. Could not initialize CCD camera(2)

I just tried to connect the camera as Glenn said he was able to do but it still wouldnt connect. In the ASCOM camera chooser the only camera available was the simulator.

I hope you can help.

Brad

Try to reinstall the ASCOM QHY8 64 bit camera driver.  It seems to need to be installed at the end after everything else.

Good luck, Glenn

Well I've already made a thread on the main Software Release and Development board but I may as well add my request as suggested by another member.

I and a few other people I know would greatly appreciate a 64bit driver for the QHY6, I saw the response in a previous message that says its not in the pipeline and there is no real possibility of scheduling it in but I would ask you to reconsider that.

I know the QHY6 is a lower end camera and probably not as popular as some of the other models out there but with 64bit technology becoming more readily available it would be a good idea to either include 64bit support for the camera or make it quite clear on the website that the QHY6 is a 32bit only camera. It would be alot less hassle for QHY and QHY stockists if people that want to buy your cameras can see it is going to work or not on their respective systems before going ahead and making the purchase.

Fortunately for me I have a 32bit system to run my camera on but there may be other people who are not so fortunate.

Cheers,
Simon.

Hello,

I think, this would be the right topic.

I just want to ask if this is normal under win7 with new drivers:

I'm still getting this pattern with a little onion effect. Have I set something in QGVideo or what ??

Meanwhile I using also Win XP x86, where I installed my old drivers and everything is OK. I don't want to keep two OS just cause of one camera (I've tried also XP mode in Win7 of course) ...

This is capture from Win XP few minutes after that taken under win7. Both are stack of 155 frames in registax:

Thanks for any response.

Hello Roman,

Just a question, which of the two images do you prefer?

As just a viewer, I believe there is much more detail in the first image even with the pattern effect.

Second question:  Are you saying the Moire effect is not removed by changing the image to screen size?  Have you tried zooming in or out a little?

BTW, nice Jupiter.   ;)

Hi,

I prefer the second one. That pattern makes sharpening very difficult. I can make much better images without that pattern. The first one is little bit more detailed, but just because of better seeing condition during capturing.

I don't fully understand the second question. You think about focal lenght, or resampling image after processing? This two images are 3x resampled, to show that "noise" pattern. Onion effect was visible before processing, on the video.

That's the point. On XP I using old drivers, which giving my good results. But after installing Win 7 x64 I downloaded new drivers from astrosoft.be and QGVideo gives pics like this. It cannot by processed as good as in Win XP ...  I using only QGVideo.

I'm using Windows Vista (32-bit) and am currently suffering from this "raster issue" too. If it works in XP but not in Vista/7, it apparently is a driver issue, which is sort of a relief for me, since it means my QHY5 is probably not broken after all. There's a short thread about this, but no solution yet: http://qhyccd.com/ccdbbs/index.php?topic=2336.0

Hi,

I have some problems with the QHY8 Driver...Using Windows Ultimate 7 64bit

I have in order:
installed the latest ascom.
installedQHY8drv64
Installed QHY8 Ascom Driver
Installed QHY8 ASCOM Driver StarSenseSci V1.3

Connected QHY8 unpowered.

Drivers seems to instalI correctly.

The problems now start.

I use both Nebulosity 2 and MaximDL to acquire images. If I start Nebulosity and connect as an Ascom camera/QHY8 the program connects correctly and functions perfectly. If I then exit Nebulosity and start Maxim, Maxim says connected, but if I image, all that is downloaded (no matter what the offset or gain) I get nothing but a black image. If I then go back to Nebulosity and connect again, everything seems to connect properly but I get a pure black image again. The only ciue is to re boot and start the computer again....

Conversely.....

If I start imaging in Maxim, everything is fine, switching to Nebulosity brings on the black image, switching back to Maxim gives the black image again. The only cure is to reboot the computer.

In summary, whatever imaging program is started first works fine, switching to another causes problems, and switching back does not cure things. Only a re boot does that.

The Starsensensesci Drivers when selected as an Ascom camera seem to connect, but hang in downloading an image no matter what program is being used.

Help much appreciated......

cheers
Gary

Hello,

The right band and left band is the overscan and optic black pixel area. The stretch of MAXIMDL's image is not the same so you are not seen it. You can adjust the stretch to compare.

When capture kommand is selected, a following error happens:

"OpenCV GUI Error Handler. Incorrect size on input array (Non-positive cols on rows) in function cvInitMatHeader, C:\user\VP\opencv\cxcore\src\carray.cpp(182)"

After that, the SW hangs and has to be shut down. Any ideas whats going on?
